Fall has gone by so fast and there is still so much happening here at HLC. If you’ve been following our Facebook page you may have heard that our annual AGM is coming up this Thursday at 10am here at the HLC Office. Join us for a quick overview of our year over coffee, tea and light snacks. Find out more here on our Facebook page.
We warmly welcome our newest volunteer board member to HLC’s legal host, the Peace Association for Life Long Learning (PALLL). Welcome, Vi Dang. Vi brings experience in an extensive background in education and sciences to our Board and we are truly lucky to have her not only as a board member but as a new addition to the Peace River community as well. Vi and her husband recently, and willingly, moved to Northern Alberta from Ontario.
Our English Language Learning (ELL) and Literacy and Foundational Learning (LFL) programs will be coming to a wrap early and mid-December. We will celebrate our fabulous year of learning with a little Christmas Potluck December 10th from 4pm to 7pm here at our office. Bring the family and a snack to share. This is a very casual open-house style party, pop in for a few minutes and a quick cup of tea or stay the for the whole party.
Jenn, our LFL Coordinator, is well into growing a little human and will be headed off on her maternity leave soon. We will keep you posted on who comes in to cover for her while she enjoys baby snuggles, sleepless nights, piles of diapers and laundry and other such new baby joys. If you know someone who might want to apply for the LFL position you can send them here to find out more. And remember to tell them how incredibly awesome HLC is and that it would be a super skookum place to work.
The LFL Coordinator helps to oversee programming here at HLC. Although, their main role is to work directly with learners and learner-volunteer teams to help others realize their goals and potential in foundational skills. If you are someone who always seems to be helping others: find answers, solve learning problems with their phones or computers, choose the best learning or career route, find learning solutions, by sharing your passion for continued education, or connecting people who can help each other or to other valuable resources then this might be a great fit for you. Find out more here on Indeed and share with anyone who you think might be interested and a good fit.
As always, we are accepting new volunteers to help learners achieve their goals in computer and technology skills, numeracy, reading, writing and more. Contact us today if you are interested in working with us as a volunteer in one of the most rewarding roles in the North.
As always, we thank you for your continued support in our efforts to bring more learning opportunities to our community. Have a safe and happy holiday season.
