What is the CAEC?The Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) is Alberta’s new high school equivalency test. It replaces the GED and shows employers, colleges, and training programs that you have the same skills and knowledge as someone with a high school diploma. At Vision Learning Centre, we’re here to help you prepare, book, and write your CAEC test — all in a safe, supportive environment right here in Peace River.
-
Who can take the CAEC in Alberta? The CAEC is made for adults who don’t have a high school diploma and want to unlock better job, education, or training opportunities. Here are the eligibility details: Be an Alberta resident. Be at least 18 years old—some 17-year-olds may qualify under special conditions. Have been out of the public school system for at least 10 consecutive months. (This is to make sure it’s a fresh start and not simply recent school). If you’re unsure whether you qualify, just give Vision Learning Centre a call. We’ll help verify and guide you every step of the way.
-
How do I register for the CAEC?You’ll register online through the official CAEC testing platform: Go to caec.vretta.com. Create your free account and choose your test date(s). When you book, you’ll need a valid piece of government-issued photo ID and must agree to the Terms of Agreement. Payment options: You can pay directly on the CAEC platform with a credit card, or If you don’t have a credit card, Vision Learning Centre has you covered — simply pay us ahead of time by cash or e-transfer, and we’ll apply the payment for you when we book your test. If you need help at any step — from creating your account to scheduling and paying — we’re here to guide you through the process.
-
What subjects are on the CAEC, and how are the tests delivered? The CAEC includes five subject tests: Reading Writing Mathematics (two parts — one with a calculator, one without) Science Social Studies All tests are computer-based and written at approved testing centres like Vision Learning Centre in Peace River. You can schedule the tests one at a time or take several on the same day — whatever works best for you. If you need the test to be on paper, please let us know when you book your exams.
-
What score do I need to pass, and when will I get my results? To pass, you need 55% or higher on each subject test. When you’ll get your results: Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies → Results are available in your CAEC account within two business days. Writing → Results take longer because they’re hand-scored. Expect them within 20 business days.
-
Can I retake a test if I don't pass?Yes! You can retake a CAEC subject test—but there are specific rules to follow: You may attempt each subject only once per calendar month. You’re allowed a maximum of 3 attempts per subject per calendar year. You cannot retake a test you’ve already passed. If you’d like your Writing test rescored, you can request a rescore within 90 days of your result, for a $30 fee. The rescore result is final. At Vision Learning Centre, we’ll help you understand your results and plan a strategy if you need to retake—or rescore—a test. You’re not in this alone.
-
How long does it take to complete all the CAEC tests? How long is each CAEC test? Reading: 50 questions — 75 minutes Writing: One persuasive task — 75 minutes Mathematics: Two parts totaling 120 minutes: Part I (no calculator): 12 questions — 30 minutes Part II (calculator allowed): 30 questions — 90 minutes Science: 35 questions — 90 minutes Social Studies: 40 questions — 90 minutes How long do I have to complete all five tests?
