CAEC Testing and Prep in Alberta for Adults
You’re ready for the next step — and we’re here to help you take it.

What Is the CAEC and Who Is It For?
The CAEC (Canadian Adult Education Credential) is Alberta’s official high school equivalency test. It replaces the GED and helps adults prove their academic skills for jobs, training, or college.
You can write the CAEC test in five subjects:
Reading
Writing
Math
Science
Social Studies
Many of our learners missed out on finishing high school. Others just want to prove what they know. Whatever your reason, you’re not alone — and we’ll walk with you.

I never finished high school. Is the CAEC really the same as a diploma? The CAEC is Alberta’s official high school equivalency. It’s not a full diploma, but it’s widely accepted by employers, colleges, and trades programs as proof of high school-level learning.
-
What happens if I fail part of the CAEC?You don’t have to redo the whole thing! You can rewrite just the sections you didn’t pass. Our team can help you prepare for a rewrite and figure out next steps. You’re allowed to rewrite each subject up to two times per calendar year, for a total of three attempts per subject each year (initial test + 2 rewrites). If you need help preparing for a rewrite, our instructors can work with you on the areas you struggled with.
-
I’m nervous. What’s the testing experience actually like? You’ll write in a quiet room at Vision Learning Centre with a small number of other adult learners. There’s no judgment, and you’ll have support from kind, professional staff who get what it’s like to return to learning.
-
Can I prep and test at the same time?Yes. Many learners study with us while they schedule their exams. If you’re strong in one subject but need help in others, we’ll build a plan around that.
-
How long will it take me to finish the whole thing? That depends on your schedule and how confident you are with the material. Some learners prep for a few weeks; others take a year or two. We work at your pace.
-
I don’t have a computer. Can I still do this?Yes. You can use our computer lab to practice and write your test. We also offer help in-person. Tests can also be written on paper if you request at least a week in advance.
-
Do you offer CAEC in other languages? The test is only available in English and French. However, we can support English Language Learners with prep classes that help build reading and writing skills first.
