Vision Learning Centre Summer Closure: Why We Pause (and What You Can Still Do)

We know it’s not easy when the doors close for summer. Here’s why we do it — and why we can’t wait to welcome you back in September.

From the outside, it might just look like a summer break.
But for us — and for many of our learners — the Vision Learning Centre summer closure is more than that.
It’s a time of reflection, planning, rest… and sometimes, a little heartbreak.
Because when the office gets quiet, we miss the sound of it all:
The relief in someone’s voice when they finally understand something.
The laughter over shared stories.
The nervous excitement before a CAEC test.
The quiet joy of a newcomer learning how to book a doctor’s appointment for the first time.
This work matters. But to keep doing it well, we have to pause.
Why We Close Each Summer
You might be wondering — if it matters so much, why not stay open all year?
The answer comes down to three things:
funding, staff capacity, and learner patterns.
Funding limitations.
Our government and grant funding covers September to June. We stretch every dollar, but without additional support, a full summer program just isn’t possible. If we had the funding — we would run all year long. No question.
Staff rest and planning.
Our instructors, program leads, and admin team pour their hearts into this work. Summer gives them space to recharge, review what worked, and make sure the fall is even better. Behind the scenes, we’re writing new curriculum, updating materials, training new team members, and refining everything from intake to instruction.
Learner availability.
Summer is unpredictable. Families are traveling. Work schedules shift. Childcare becomes harder to manage. Many learners simply can’t commit to regular classes in July and August. We don’t want to offer something half-full or halfway done. So we pause — and return when people are ready.

What’s Still Available During the Vision Learning Centre Summer Closure?
Even though classes are paused, we haven’t disappeared. Here’s what’s still happening this summer:
📝 CAEC Testing is still running!
You can continue booking your high school equivalency exams throughout the summer. Our office will open for scheduled test days in July and August.
📬 We’re still answering messages.
We’re checking voicemails and emails regularly. If you reach out, we’ll get back to you.
📅 Fall registration is coming.
We’ll be announcing new fall programs in August. Want to learn English, finish high school, or build your tech skills? Watch our website or follow us on Facebook for details.
Why This Break Matters — Even If It’s Hard
We’ve heard from so many learners this year:
“I feel so safe in this office.”
“For the first time ever, I’m able to help my kids with their homework.”
“No one has ever encouraged me before — I didn’t know how to take it.”
This isn’t just about school.
It’s about dignity. Confidence. Belonging.
That’s what we’re building — and it takes thoughtful rest and planning to do it well.
What to Expect This Fall
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming when we reopen in September:
English classes for all levels, including conversation groups
CAEC prep and one-on-one tutoring
Job skills support like resume help, interview prep, and computer basics
Tech help with Taiwo — still just $5/hour by appointment!
French classes and special workshops
Mentorship program for newcomers and seniors
And more — including fresh snacks, coffee, and a welcoming smile
We’ll See You in the Fall
The Vision Learning Centre summer closure doesn’t mean the story stops.
It’s just a new chapter — and we’re already getting excited for what’s next.
If you’ve been thinking about learning something new, this is your chance. Use the summer to reflect. Then come join us when the doors open again.
Let’s make this fall the one where everything changes.
